Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! I am excited to welcome all of my students back this year. I am originally from Brooklyn New York and I have lived in the south for last 27 years for my life. I received my BA degree from Oakwood University in Huntsville Alabama. I lived there for a while before moving to Georgia. I accepted a teaching position in Clayton County, where I continue to work, since August 2000.  My initial experience educating children began with elementary school. For the past 4 years I have been an 8th grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher. This year I will continue instructing students in the reading connection position – Read 180. My goal is to help struggling readers build their reading and comprehension skills, as well as their confidence. Allowing them to be successful not only on the GMAS but to be college and career ready.

Course Description:

Read 180 is an intensive reading intervention program designed to meet the needs of students whose reading achievement is below the proficient level. The program directly addresses individual needs in reading and writing through adaptive and instructional software, high-interest literature, and direct instruction delivered through both small and whole group. In addition, the Read 180 program will expose students to the new Common Core Georgia Performance Standards. Students in the Read 180 program will still be assessed through mandatory state assessments (CRCT, EOCT, etc) Text complexity levels are assessed based upon a variety of indicators. (More information on text complexity recommendations can be found at https://www.georgiastandards.org/Common-Core/Pages/ELA-6-8.aspx)
