Educational & Background Information
Welcome to my teacher website! I am Mrs. Stephens and I attended Kennesaw State University where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in May 2010. My education continued at the same university and I received a Master of Social Work degree in May 2012. Immediately following my graduate studies, I took a position as a Child Protective Services Investigator with DeKalb County Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) in May 2012. As a DFCS case manager, I worked very closely with the school system. This collaboration with students and school teachers sparked my interest in the field of public education. I resigned from DFCS and took a position as a Pre-Kindergarten Paraprofessional with DeKalb County Schools in October 2012. My employment continued there for one school year. In August 2013, I was offered a certified teaching position as an Adapted Special Education Teacher with Clayton County Public Schools. I currently live in McDonough, Georgia with my husband, Michael Stephens, and our 7 year old daughter, Michayla Stephens. I enjoy watching movies, reading, dining out and playing word games.

Course Information
Our class uses the "Unique Learning System" curriculum. This program provides access to the Georgia Standards for students with mild disabilities in the areas of Math, Science, Reading, Social Studies and Writing. Please read the document that was sent home with your student for more information about our curriculum. In addition to our curriculum, our students will each work on their Individual Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives throughout the school year. Additional instruction will also include social skills training, job skills training, and Community Based Instruction (CBI). Please check your child's folder daily for detailed information regarding these subjects.

Classroom Discipline Plan
Our class uses a behavior tracking program called "Class Dojo". "Class Dojo" is an internet based tool that helps teachers and parents to keep track of their student's behavior by using a point system. Our students earn points for the following positive behaviors: attendance, helping others, homework, staying on task, participating, persistence, teamwork, wearing the uniform properly, and working hard. Our students lose points for the following behaviors: disrespect (including disrespect to other students), off task, horse-playing, no homework, no uniform (or wearing the uniform improperly), talking out of turn, and coming to class unprepared. The points are tracked Monday through Friday of each week. On Monday of the following week, the students are paid "Dojo Money" for the amount of points that they have earned that previous week. The students may use this "Dojo Money" to purchase items from my "Dojo Store" which includes but is not limited to candy, toys, costume jewelry, etc.
