Ms. Dobson

Hello My Name Is...

Gaye Dobson

Hello, I am Gaye Miller Dobson, a native of New Jersey.  I came to Atlanta to attend Spelman College where I graduated with a B.A. in English Literature.  I also have a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University. I worked as a teacher and assistant principal in Fulton County at Holcomb Bridge and Paul D. West Middle Schools for over 15 years.  Most recently, I am returning from an international school reform in UAE where I worked with teachers from all over the world as an Academic Vice Principal.  Because teaching is my first passion, I aspire to attain a Doctoral degree and teach teachers on a collegiate level one day. I am excited to work with 8th grade this year.

Using the Georgia Standards of Excellence curriculum for Language Arts, learners will be engaged in close, analytic reading, citing textual evidence from multiple sources and writing daily to build knowledge.  We will write often to integrate language standards into instruction as well. A detailed syllabus will be available to students.

Every student has the right to learn in a safe orderly classroom.  Please review school code of conduct.   I will strictly adhere to a discipline plan where inappropriate and off task behaviors are addressed swiftly.  As students prepare for high school, self control, and reflection are expected.  In such, the following behavioral steps will be taken to maintain instructional integrity:

  • Personal redirect; low key intervention and warning; seat change
  • Writing reflection for parent signature/ parent contact/conference
  • Team meeting, Incentive based strategy
  • Office referral is a last resort
