Mr. McCullough

Hello My Name Is...

Michael McCullough

Welcome to Mr. McCullough's social studies and math classes for the 2016-2017 school year. This is my 9th year teaching at Adamson Middle School, 6 in 8th grade and 3 in 7th grade where I have taught math and social studies. Prior to coming to Adamson I've worked in Spalding and Henry Counties as an administrator and classroom teacher, all in the middle school. My goal at Adamson is to help prepare your child for a successful 9th grade year. This will not occur however, if your child is not committed to his or her educational efforts.

As far as discipline goes, I will attempt to work with your child prior to contacting you, his/her parent or guardian. If we cannot reach a consensus of proper behavior and academic efforts during class, your child will be assigned an afterschool detention. You will have at least 2-3 days notice before the assigned detention. If the detention is not effective, I then will refer the issue to the administration.

In social studies your child will be studying Georgia History this year. In sixth grade students studied Latin America, Canada, Europe, and Australia. Seventh grade students studied Africa, the Middle East (Southwest Asia), South and East Asia. In eighth grade we will return to North America and study Georgia and parts of US history related to the state. With the Georgia Milestones test, your child will be doing more reading, critical thinking, and writing in social studies class than before. Your child is responsible for all assigned work, as they prepare to go to high school next year. Additionally, they will be required to complete an end of year project.

In math, we will begin the year with geometry (transformations), then expand to different degrees of algebra as we progress throughout the year. It is imperative that your child attend and actively participate in class daily. By being a “fly on the wall” or pre-occupied with others through talking, not only will your child fail to accomplish the improvement(s) we expect on the Georgia Milestone, but will be endanger of failing the 8th grade and having to repeat it next year. The passing of math on the Milestones is a must in order to be promoted to the 9th grade.

After school assistance will be Wednesday's from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. with prior arrangements discussed with Mr. McCullough.

Parents can reach Mr. McCullough at the school's number: 770-968-2925 (leave a message with the secretary) or email: (preferred).

I look forward to a successful year working with you and your child as we strive towards mastery of the Common Core and passing the spring assessments (Georgia Milestones).
